Saving Online Through Ebates

Woo Hoo! Today I got my first Big Fat Check from Ebates.

The U.S. Postal Service is finally able to fly mail in and out of our local airport after all the snow we had. And my mailbox was loaded today. There were several freebies (yeah!), a few adds (trash), a few bills (ugh) and a Big Fat Check (Super Yeah!).

What's a Big Fat Check?

A Big Fat Check is a real check for money back from online orders made through Ebates. The amount (how big & fat the check is) varies, depending on how much you spend online during a given quarter. I'm taking my big fat check to the bank and putting it in our savings.

What is Ebates?

Ebates is a portal for shopping online that saves you money for those online purchases. I don't remember where I first heard about Ebates, but it was after talking to a real life friend about the money she'd gotten back that I decided to explore a little more.

How does Ebates work?

Start, by setting up your account through Ebates. Next, choose the store where you want to shop - so far they've had every store I've wanted except Amazon. The site will tell you what percentage of your purchase you will get back. Click on the link. The original window will list a tracking number that will be used to track your total purchase and how much your rebate will be. At the same time it will open a new window to the store where you want to shop. From there you just continue shopping as you would normally. Once your purchase has been verified you will receive an email indicating the amount credited to your account.

That's it. There's basically nothing else for you to do except sit back and wait for your check to come.

When do I get my Big Fat Check?

Ebates issues Big Fat Checks once per quarter. You can also get your money through a PayPal account if you prefer.

I'm skeptical. Is it really that simple?

Yes. It really is. I was skeptical too. That's why I asked questions of real life people I knew and trusted first. I signed up back in June, but didn't do much online shopping until November & December right before Christmas. That's when my rebates really started to grow.

And now, I'm sitting in my family room enjoying my Big Fat Check. Hubby's going to love this.

Okay, I'm interested. How do I get started?

Click this link to Ebates and register. When you do, you'll receive a $5.00 credit to your account (and so will I). Then, whenever you have online shopping to do, start at Ebates and continue on to your store through their site. Don't foget to check RetailMeNot.com for free shipping codes before placing your order.

Full Disclosure: When you register for Ebates through my link I get a credit and so do you. If you do not go through my link, you will still get your credit. I have not been compensated to write about Ebates. Whether or not I am compensated, the opinions expressed on this site are always my own. I do not get extra compensation for publishing nice comments.

Love, Love, Love Ebates. I signed up early summer 09, and have received about $190 back so far. It really adds up! One note...sometimes using a coupon code other than the ones listed on Ebates will void your Ebates percentage. I have not come across this personally (I always check retailmenot, too). But, the merchants do have the option to refuse the rebate if you use those outside promo codes.

Enjoy your Big Fat Check!

Enjoy your Ebates check! I haven't tried them, but it certainly is tempting after reading this.
